I am an Aberdeen newborn photographer who offers newborn photos in the comfort of your own home. Check out this gorgeous shoot of baby Oliver and his family.

I love taking newborn photos in your own home, not only because it’s super convenient for you (there’s no packing bags or worrying about getting out the house on time yay!), but because it’s a place of comfort and super special to look back on, especially for your children, imagine their little faces in years to come when they look back and can see the home they once grew up in!

Oliver’s older brother Max was full of beans and so excited to run around his home, showing me his bedroom and playing with his favourite toys. I find having these newborn sessions in your own home offers a safe space for your children to be themselves, and that’s exactly what I want to capture! These moments are so precious to document as part of this new family you are all growing in to! I love to include siblings and dogs, and of course you as parents in the session.

Every session is always different, depending on baby’s needs when I arrive. For Ollie’s session we starting with breastfeeding photos (which have been kept private) and moved onto family snuggles on the sofa when Max was ready to join in.

One thing I am often told is “Our home is very lived in”….and I get it! I promise your home doesn’t have to look like a show home! I simply recommend a few areas where there are some natural pockets of light by the window, being mindful of what could be behind you. Areas like your bed, the sofa, patios doors, maybe your baby has a nursery set up already, all these areas are ideal. And it’s perfectly normal for “stuff” to be in the background.

I have a very natural approach to “posing” you. Which consists mostly of setting you up in a spot which feels most comfortable, maybe adjusting you slightly for the best light and then giving you a little bit of direction to snuggle into one another and just allow those natural moments to occur! There’s nothing too structured. Even when it comes to photos of your little ones by themselves! I take a few props with me, and always recommend wearing something comfortable but neutral. Plain baby grows or bodysuits are perfect for showing off those little hands and feet.
