Amanda and Michael’s Modern lush greenery wedding at The Coos Cathedral

The Coos Cathedral is an epic wedding venue in Aberdeenshire, and is well known for its STUH-NING rustic charm! Originally a barn, built for some top notch coos, the building has been completely transformed into one of my fave wedding venues🤩🤩🤩.

The Coos Cathedral has heaps of space, and can accommodate up to 400 guests, so if you are in search of a humdinger celebration this is the place for you!

Amanda and Michael were all about the easy breezy vibes, so keeping things minimal and laid back where possible was key to them👌🧘🎶✨.

The Coos Cathedral was beautifully decorated with lots of lush greenery accented by gold decor and lots of personal touches. Amanda is a primary school teacher and her students had made her so many cute personal touches to display throughout the day. It was so sweet seeing how loved she is by all the children.

Amanda’s Dad and Mum handmade little chairs as wedding favours for everyone! Even me🥰🥰!

I loved their table names which were so personal to them, like the name of the house they were building, Cairnmuick, and each table had a photo with a handwritten note on the back to explain what the table name meant.

Every detail was on point – and you could tell how loved Amanda and Michael are by their friends, family and community!!

It rained on their pre-wedding shoot so we thought we were destined for sun on their wedding day!!  But the rain was pretty relentless, however, we made the absolute most of it, and Amanda and Michael enjoyed their photos all the same.

I am glad they embraced Mother nature and all she brings – having a blast despite the rain 🌧☔️ .

How the day unfolded

Amanda and her two besties chose to do their bridal prep at a nearby luxury BnB called Lys Na Greyne. It really was stunning, even with the dreich Scottish weather. Amanda spent a chilled morning with her besties, laughing and having a blast.

The morning festivities were pleasantly interrupted by a sweet exchange of gifts between Amanda & Michael. I will always remember the look on Amanda’s face as she read Michael’s card!! It was so lovely to capture – you can see the excitement in her eyes at the thought of seeing him soon. Once everyone was ready, Amanda shared an emotional reveal with her Dad  (welp, these moments always make me cry happy tears🥺🥺) , before setting off to the venue just 10 minutes away.

The rain added a certain hint of romance to the run-up to the ceremony – and Amanda was escorted under a brolly tunnel to ensure her hair and make-up remained perfect 😘 👌.

Guests arrived in the pouring rain but everyone had a big smile and couldn’t wait to see Amanda in her dress, especially Michael, the excitement was all over his face!

The guests slowly made their way into the one half of  The Coos Cathedral (which BTW, is an awesome sauce Plan B, in case of rain)!! Waiting for them on their seats was the cutest  “wedding day post”, showcasing their pre wedding photos (done by moi – of course), and listed all the VIPs from their bridal party to their parents. It was such a cute and personal touch!!

The ceremony was beautiful, with a reading by one of the bridesmaids, and a first sip of champers for the bride and groom before stealing a second kiss when walking down the aisle.

We went straight into a confetti shot, which the rain held off for briefly, so it was perfect timing!

The couple had a few moments to themselves, while we took some cute pictures with the vintage car they hired. These turned out to be some of my favourite images from the day!!!

I decided to do group shots against the gorgeous brickwork by the door just so we were close to cover in the event of a downpour. We had a bit of cheeky fun – because there is no such thing as dull, stiff portraits when you work with me 🤪😎!!

After some mingling with guests, I set off with our newlyweds for a short walk around the surrounding woodland area. It was super wet on the ground but Amanda carried her dress and veil beautifully for her photos and thankfully wasn’t too precious about her dress getting a bit muddy. We knew it would be worth it for the pics!

Best parts about working at The Coos Cathedral

Where do I start – there are so many things to love about The Coos Cathedral!! But as a photographer, I love the fact that you don’t have to leave the Venue grounds once you get there.  This simple detail makes the entire day feel really relaxed and chilled. Not to mention there is an abundance of photo opportunities – including the building itself, which has a real boujee vibe!!

Dance floor vibes

Confetti on the dancefloor, what more can I say?! If there was a prize for the most epic confetti shot I think Amanda & Michael would definitely be contenders. They staged a perfectly timed confetti cannon during their first dance, just as the beat dropped, and was simply the most fun moment ever!!

Their guests also did not disappoint and pulled some epic moves whilst I was there.

Trends I loved from this wedding at The Coos Cathedral

While most of the wedding decor was quite modern and refined – there were some quirky touches that are definitely bang on trend RN:

✌️a personalised neon sign – totes in love with this one and makes for epic pics!

✌️confetti on the dancefloor – If you are thinking of recreating this moment – Just Do it!!

Fun Photos that Amanda and Michael chose to include:

✌️epic veil shot pics with cute car – which is going to add some serious swag to their wedding albums

✌️confetti shot – you know I luuuurve an epic confetti shot

✌️confetti with your bridesmaids – because having a laugh with your best gal pals is something you will always remember
