Banff Aberdeenshire Wedding: A Bright, Sentimental Garden Party at Canterbury House
When Fiona and Adam tied the knot at Fiona’s family home, Canterbury House in Banff, Aberdeenshire, it was nothing short of a dreamy garden party with heartfelt personal touches sprinkled throughout. With bright pops of color, wildflowers, and a rustic vibe (hello, whisky barrels!), this Banff Aberdeenshire wedding felt like a joyful, intimate celebration. Plus, there was a subtle nod to Adam’s love of aviation, adding a unique twist to the day. ✈️
A First Look and Sentimental Portraits
Fiona and Adam put their own spin on tradition by opting for a first look before the ceremony—a sweet, private moment just for them. If you’re feeling nervous on your wedding day, I can’t recommend this enough! It’s the perfect way to shake off the jitters and share some intimate time before the excitement of the ceremony kicks off.
Since their ceremony was later in the afternoon, Fiona and Adam took full advantage of the time, heading over to the nearby village of Fordyce for couple portraits. Fiona spent much of her childhood here, and it’s also where Adam proposed! 💍 Fordyce, with its charming old church (now a restaurant), holds so much sentimental value—it’s where Fiona’s grandparents and parents got married. The couple even recreated their family photos there. How special is that?
Personal Touches & Family Love
Speaking of personal touches, this wedding was full of them! Fiona’s late grandfather’s wheelbarrow got a pink makeover and was filled with wildflower seeds as wedding favours for guests to take home and plant—a beautiful nod to family. 🌸 The reception décor was equally meaningful, with small vases of colorful flowers grown by the couple’s family members. Every detail had that warm, homegrown feel.
After sharing their first kiss and walking back down the aisle, Fiona and Adam grabbed an ice cream (Portsoy Ice Creams, anyone?)—a refreshing treat on this hot summer day! 🍦 The couple also took a few minutes alone while we wrangled the guests for the confetti shot, which I highly recommend for all my couples. It’s a quiet, meaningful moment to breathe and soak it all in.
One of the most emotional highlights? A FaceTime call with Adam’s Granny, who couldn’t make it to the wedding. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight—it was one of the sweetest, most touching moments I’ve ever seen. 🥹 And let’s not forget Fiona’s granny, who was up dancing the night away! This day would’ve marked her and her late husband’s 75th wedding anniversary, another reason why Fiona and Adam chose this date. The family love was truly at the heart of everything.
Fiona & Adam’s Wedding Advice
When I asked Fiona and Adam for advice they’d give future couples, here’s what they had to say:
“Start early! We’ve found planning a completely customised day with a marquee in less than 6 months to be a big undertaking. Having a venue sorts out a lot of things for you, but when it’s at home, you have to organise everything yourself! Doing it together lightens the load and makes sure you’re both excited about the big day. Also, choose local suppliers—it makes everything so much easier if there are any last-minute changes. And definitely make a wedding website for RSVPs—it keeps things super simple!”
How Was Their Experience Working with Me?
Before their big day, I asked Fiona and Adam how they found the experience of hiring me, and they said:
“Very straightforward—we love the periodic emails that give us something to read and get excited about our day.”
